Friendship Theatre

"Where the biggest parts go to the smallest voices"

What is the Friendship Theatre

Welcome
To Our Theater

Ryan Benvenuto, Sofia Yaker and Scarlett Dellacona are  middle school students whose lives have been impacted by participation in theater. As Girl Scouts, they saw an opportunity to give back to the children of our community.  Ryan, Sofia & Scarlett would like others, who may not have found their voices yet,  to join a group where all voices are heard, no matter what challenges one may face.

Friendship Theatre is based on the premise that all children need a voice, and Friendship Theatre will provide that setting. The entire production is student-run and offered at no charge to the families in the community.

A Statement from the Founders

Theater is an amazing opportunity to step out of our own worlds and be transported! Through theater, we learn about the world, life, friendship and ultimately, ourselves.  We hope the concept of a more unified theater will give students with special needs an opportunity to express themselves in new and unique ways, end stereotypes, connect with new people, grow socially and communicatively, and experience the magic of theater.

Friendship Theatre  is a theater initiative to unify ALL students. We encourage children to step away from their screens, open up, find their voice, and work as a team, to put on a production of a small show in the form of a theater workshop.

Theater has helped each of us meet new people, express ourselves in new ways, and gain an overall sense of accomplishment and confidence. By taking on a theater initiative that will allow children of all ages and abilities to work together and step on stage, perhaps for the first time in their lives, we hope it will do the same for them!

About us

RYAN BENVENUTO:

Ryan began her love of the theater immediately in her 5th Grade Marion Street play when was chosen for the role of Veruca Salt in Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. From there Ryan began performing at Plaza Theatrical and found many new friends! Some of her performances included Hairspray, All Shook Up, Seussical, and Ryan was cast as Dana Turner in Camp Rock! She also acted with the Plaza Adult Theatre Group, performing as Bielke in Fiddler on the Roof.  Ryan continued in drama at Lynbrook South Middle School where her most memorable and meaningful performance to date has bee playing the lead role of Maria in The Sound of Music.  Ryan attributes much of her confidence and many of her friendships to her experience in the theater. She has learned there there is a role for EVERYBODY and very much looks forward to continuing down this theatrical path in Lynrook High School come September.  Ryan is the daughter of Kerri & Russell Benvenuto, the younger sister of Mason, the older sister to Logan, and proud pet owner of Murphy.

SCARLETT DELLACONA

Scarlett’s first crack at theater began in the 5th grade play, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  It was a wonderful experience that exposed Scarlett, a natural introvert, to the world of theater, behind the scenes. Scarlett joined her middle school stage crew and helped produce the show Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.  These experiences led her to become the Props Master and Stage Manager in her final year of middle school. Scarlett loves theater because it is a place where she learns new perspectives, continues to grow, and makes new friends in a fun and safe atmosphere. Scarlett also loves to write and has already published her first short story. Scarlett lives in Lynbrook with her Mom, Dad, younger sister, Genevieve and younger brother, Maxwell.

SOFIA YAKER:

Sofia is an 8th grader at Lynbrook South Middle School and is graduating this year. She plays volleyball, runs track, and competes with the kickline team. She is an active member of the school’s preforming arts program, participating for the last 3 years in The Music Man Jr, The Sound of Music, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. She has also played a number of shows put on by Plaza Performance. Sofia is active in community and school service as she is a member of the Nation Junior Honor Society, Student Government, and Peer Leadership. Sofia is also participating in Studio Art, has attended The All-County Art Festival and enjoys painting and drawing in her free time.  Sofia lives in Lynbrook with her Mom, Dad and younger sister, Penelope.
